Residuum - Papa Leone (Numerology version)
Bio: Residuum (Thomas Mayer) is about copyright laws, technology and the effects on
artistical expression. The message is plain and simple: Copyright does
not serve artists and preservation of their intellectual Work, but
rightowners and preservation of their intellectual Property. That is the
root of the music industry's fear of internet and its possibilities,
because it provides a new way to spread and market works apart from
their domain.
Tracks oscillate between Ambient, Industrial, Noise and Techno, but are
often spiced up with more or less known samples, the only connection for
the complete works.
Residuum is releasing music on the website under that pseudonym since
2002, first on mp3.de, later on the artist's website. Prior to that,
there was a similar project called Bootie dedicated to bootleg mixing
and mash-ups, which the artist sometimes re-surrects to have some fun.
"Residuum is like Throbbing Gristle without strippers." ~(FSR/AO) Track: What is the most signifcant number? Yes, it is 10, the number of fingers, that most of the people have, therefore, most children learn to count up to the number 10 using their fingers. And 10 is also the sum of 3 and 7, the only two primes that add ujp to ten. But this is not the reason for the heavy repititive use of those two numbers in that track, the reason is different: Papa Leone is created only using samples from the opening sequence of the movie "C'era una volta il West" (1968) by Sergio Leone, and 3 and 7 are some of the only words of that sequence.
